Best Unlocked Smartphone

Google G1 or Blackberry Pearl?

I’m in need of a new cell, and I’m in the market for a smartphone. I’m with T-Mobile and I don’t want to get an unlocked phone because they’re just too pricey for me. Today the Google Android G1 was announced for T-Mobile for $179.99, a very good price for a very capable phone. I’ve also been looking at the Blackberry Pearl for $99.99. Now, which phone is best? I want an phone for email, text messaging, IM, directions, usability, and just an overall nice OS. The touchscreen on the G1 is a nice feature, but it looks laggy on Engadget. So, now I’m wondering, which is a better buy? Save $80 on the Pearl, or go all out and get the G1?
